The Bonnefantenmuseum is a museum of ancient and contemporary art, located in Maastricht. It was founded in 1884 and since 1995 it has been based in a building designed by the Italian architect Aldo Rossi, in an old industrial area.

The museum houses a collection of ancient art offering an interesting overview of artistic periods. There are also paintings and sculptures from 1200 to 1700, and an important contemporary art section.

The entire collection can be divided into four parts: the wood sculptures, the Neutelings Collection, the section dedicated to Italian painters of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries such as: Giovanni del Biondo, Domenico di Michelino, Andrea Vanni, Jacopo del Casentino, Sano di Pietro, Pietro Nelli, Carlo Crivelli. In addition, the Flemish and Dutch painters of the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries including Colijn de Coter, Jan Mandijn, Jan Provoost, Roelant Savery, Pieter Coecke van Aelst, Pieter Aertsen, Pieter Brueghel the Younger, David Teniers the Younger, Pieter Paul Rubens, Jacob Jordaens, Gérard de Lairesse, Melchior d'Hondecoeter and Jan van Goyen. As for the contemporary art collection, the Bonnefanten gathers the painters of the Paris School, of Informal Art and of the Cobra: Roger Bissière, Antonio Saura, Asger Jorn, Karel Appel;

The conceptual works of art: Jan Dibbets, Marcel Broodthaers, Daniel Buren, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Christian Boltanski, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Joseph Beuys, Bruce Nauman, Gilbert & George, Barry Flanagan; works by minimalist artists such as Sol LeWitt, Robert Ryman, Robert Mangold and Richard Serra; exponents of Italian poor art such as Luciano Fabro, Mario Merz, Jannis Kounellis; the painters of Neo-Expressionism: Hermann Nitsch, Arnulf Rainer, Anselm Kiefer, Antoni Tàpies, Neo Rauch; photographic and video works such as Francis Alÿs, Roman Signer.
