The German Port Museum is located in the free port, on the last complex of docks remaining today under protection. The structure of the quay was built 100 years ago and once ensured the optimal movement of goods between the ship moored at the quay and the traffic on land. Until the end of the 1960s, South American traffic was handled at the Bremen dock. Today the terminals have a totally different structure due to the use of containers. Nowhere else can you experience the atmosphere of the port before its introduction as in the Port Museum, a fascinating place of discovery.
The location around the historic warehouses will in future be one of two buildings of the German Harbor Museum. The new building will be built on Kleiner Grasbrook. Thanks to the two locations, the museum can cover very different thematic areas and mediation offers.
