A lively and controversial decade was that of the mythical Sixties. A time of complex social and political changes, for sure, but also of original creative impulses and the emergence of new approaches and new visions. The way of living, dwelling, working, dressing, loving, and managing free time is changing.
These are the years of the floods in Florence and Venice, of '66, of the student protests of '68 and '69, of the first expressions of the Years of Lead, but also the years in which every dream seems to be able to become reality, starting from the man walking on the Moon. In Milan, the Salone del Mobile is born, plastics triumph allowing further creative freedom. These are the years of orange plastic, of design, of the most incredible experiments. Iconic objects flourish destined to characterize the era and that, in their own way, change the way of living. Just think of the record player that allows music to be taken anywhere: a small, huge revolution.
"Italy Sixties. Art, fashion, and design. From the Boom to the Pop", at Palazzo Attems Petzenstein in Gorizia from June 29 to October 27, offers the unmissable opportunity to take a journey into one of the great myths of recent history. The exhibition, impeccable in content and historical-critical analysis, promises to be light, fun, engaging.
Visitors will be welcomed by a dazzling 1965 Ferrari 275 gtb, accompanied by a Lamborghini Miura, the latter only present in images due to space constraints, clear and universal symbols of design but also of the rise of Made in Italy technology.
The curators - Carla Cerutti for design, Enrico Minio Capucci and Raffaella Sgubin for fashion, and Lorenzo Michelli for visual arts - have chosen to tell the story of the decade by emphasizing the similarities between genres.
To tell the background, that is, the decade of the '50s, a year ago, in the same venue, "Italy Fifties. Fashion and Design. Birth of a style" had provided a very popular and beloved exhibition. That story, speaking of the '60s, expands. Beyond design and fashion, the narrative also opens up to art, recognizing how this expressive language intertwines with the other two. In '64, the Venice Biennale officializes Pop Art, which with Radical Design imposes the primacy of poetic invention over functionality. Meanwhile, new figurations and forms, between Pop and Op, new materials and technologies radiate from the epicenters of Milan and Rome to the outskirts, growing original models and advanced sensibilities.
