The Museum für Naturkunde is a science and natural history museum in Gera. Inaugurated in 1947, the museum is housed in the oldest surviving town house in the historic center of Gera, the Schreiber House, which survived the so-called "Great Fire" of 1780. Its collection shows the environment, flora and fauna. of the territory of Gera and Thuringia. There is also a zoological and mineralogical collection. Protected species such as the wild cat, eagle owl and slipper orchid are also on display. Numerous temporary exhibitions are regularly organized.
