Castello D’Albertis Museum of World Cultures in Genoa presents the exhibition Wearing Art. Artist's Jewelry, curated by Prashanth Cattaneo and Sabina Melesi.
Wearing Art features 208 pieces from Sabina Melesi's collection including jewelry by Enrico Baj, Salvador Dalí, Riccardo Dalisi, Fabrizio Dusi, Piero Gilardi, Eduard Habicher, Jiří Kolář, Antonio Ievolella, Gaetano Pesce. These are true works of art conceived and produced by 48 artists, some masters of international modern and contemporary art, throughout their careers, as body ornaments.
The artist's jewelry is an autonomous cultural and artistic sector: what distinguishes it is not the value of the chosen material to produce it, but the research that the author consistently carries out within his poetics, adhering to the expressive languages of his work and the materials and techniques with which he produces his works. Artist's jewelry represents an interesting opportunity to explore the relationships between contemporary art, craftsmanship, and anthropology.
The exhibition is accompanied by archive photographs by Sabina Melesi depicting her with the artists and by shots where the artists are the protagonists alongside their jewelry. Additionally, some projects that preceded the production are presented. To understand some ornaments, the exhibition also includes small works by the artists.
