The exhibition tells forty years of production by Cristalleria Nason & Moretti, one of the most original realities in Murano that, since its foundation in 1923 – with a specific focus on the art of tableware and a radically futuristic approach – reinterpreted in a modern key the traditional forms and techniques of Murano glass.

The history of Nason & Moretti

Nason & Moretti's services captured a wide audience from the beginning – hence their widespread presence in the antique market today – as well as sophisticated collectors, such as Gabriele D’Annunzio, who secured some two-tone glass services for the Vittoriale, or the Genoese notary Angelo Fasce, who included the Francesca glass service with ribbed drinkware as part of the table setting L’Autarca, patented by him in 1936 with the definition “Table containing everything necessary for meal service” and now exhibited at Wolfsoniana. This original piece of furniture and its set represent the connection from which the exhibition project La Cristalleria Nason & Moretti, curated by Cristina Beltrami, Matteo Fochessati, and Anna Vyazemtseva, derives, which through a selection of over a hundred objects, historical designs, and numerous archival documents aims to narrate the taste and habits of an era when the social custom of receptions prevailed. Spanning from the rise of Art Deco in the twenties to the great creative period of the fifties, which for Nason & Moretti also coincides with the award of the Compasso d’Orofor the Lidia series (1955), the exhibition traces some pages of Italian design, also understood as a mirror of a society that required a different service for every occasion.

The exhibition

The unfolding of the exhibition inevitably becomes the journey of a taste that, from the formal simplicity of the twenties, which focused on the visual impact of contrasting color combinations of glass, transitions in the following two decades to the cleanliness of geometries combined with a transparent glass with undefined nuances and then, in the fifties, to the collaboration with internationally renowned designers, as evidenced by the preservation of some Nason & Moretti services in important international museums, including the MoMA in New York.
