The Casa Pascoli Museum

The Casa Pascoli Museum represents, together with the Tower (Villa Torlonia), the center of Pascoli's memory: the memory of the moments spent in San Mauro during childhood and youth make this place full of suggestions. Giovanni Pascoli's poetry was born right here, in the memory of a happy period that returns continuously in his work, of that carefree childhood and suddenly shattered by a shot that hit his father Ruggero on August 10, 1867. Pascoli lives in this house permanently until at seven years of age, to then move with his older brothers to the college of Urbino, spending the summer in San Mauro. Before being sold to private individuals in 1880, it belonged to the Pascoli brothers and the poet often returned there during his university years in Bologna. It is precisely in one of his many returns home that Giovanni wrote the first draft of the famous Romagna lyric, now preserved in the Museum.
