Museum of the Opificio delle Pietre Stones

The Opificio delle Pietre Stones Museum is located in the historic center of Florence .

The semi-precious stone factory is one of the most important institutions in the world in the field of restoration. The Museum is annexed to the Opificio delle Pietre Dure which has been involved in the processing of semi-precious stones since 1588.

The Museum of the Opificio delle Pietre Stones was therefore created with the aim of disseminating and promoting the conservation activity of the Opificio . In fact, the museum does not offer a real collection, but highlights the productive and secular activities of the institution.

The collection consists of some examples of works in semi-precious stones: tables, plaques and plates decorated and inlaid with different pictorial scenes . Some rooms are dedicated to the exhibition of different particular stones such as the village stone and malachite. The different floors house tools for inlaying semiprecious stones dating back to the Medici and furnishings decorated in Art Nouveau style .

Notable among all are the table with flowers and birds by Niccolò Betti and the table top with harp and garlands by Zocch i. Today's exhibition presents the exhibition of stone materials of different origins and compositions. In addition, there are work benches, tools and a rich stone sample . The Museum offers educational activities and workshops open to all for a complete understanding of its activity and objectives.
