Musical Instruments Museum

The Museum of Musical Instruments is located in the center of Florence and is part of the Accademia Gallery .

Inside are the collections of the nearby Luigi Cherubini conservatory . About fifty musical instruments from the Medici and Lorraine collections dating from the seventeenth century to the first half of the twentieth century are exhibited. Among the musical rarities present, the instruments purchased in the eighteenth century by Ferdinando de 'Medici certainly stand out, such as violins, violas and cellos . Some of the instruments present were made by the famous Antonio Stradivari or there is the precious cello by Niccolò Amati from 1650 .

The tour of the Museum of Musical Instruments is enriched by curiosities related to music. For example, the oldest known upright piano and the harpsichord of Bartolomeo Cristofori , inventor of the piano. The collection consists of some paintings with representations of important personalities of musical culture . The visit is enriched by some computers that allow you to listen to the sound of the instruments on display and to get information on their history.
