The Estense Castle is the most important monument of Ferrara, known as San Michele, built by Nicolò D'Este in 1385, it is located right in the center of the city. Initially born as a defensive and military structure, it later became the Herculean Addition, home of the Este family and ducal residence. Articulated on four towers, with a large moat that surrounds it, which in addition to remembering its original function, seems to isolate it from the urban context. Now it is a permanent museum where you can still admire inside: the ducal apartments, the ancient prisons, the Torre dei Leoni, the Orange Garden, the ducal kitchens and appreciated works of art in honor of the magnificence of the Prince.
