The Angermuseum Erfurt was Erfurt's first municipal museum. Solemnly inaugurated in 1886, it is housed in an early 18th-century Baroque-style building in the historic center of Erfurt, whose richly decorated facade makes it one of the most important buildings in the city. The museum's collection preserves an artistic heritage that spans several centuries. There are paintings, sculptures and handicrafts which testify to the artistic development of Erfurt and Thuringia. The museum also preserves a rich graphic collection, consisting of over 30,000 works. Finally, the collection of applied arts preserves objects of refined craftsmanship in glass, porcelain as well as furniture and jewelry.
