The Van Abbemuseum is a modern and contemporary art museum located in the city of Eindhoven. Born in 1936 to house the Van Abbe collection, it is located in a building divided into an ancient part, dating back to the year of its foundation, and a modern part built in 2003.
The Van Abbemuseum has a collection of 1000 sculptures, 700 paintings and 1000 works on paper. The museum holds one of the largest collections of El Lissitzky's work in the world. In the collection there are works by Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Wassily Kandinsky, Marc Chagall, El Lissitzky, Fernand Léger and Piet Mondrian as well as post-war artists: Joseph Beuys, Marcel Broodthaers, Anselm Kiefer, Jannis Kounellis, Rebecca Horn and Sigmar Polke .
