The Kunstgewerbemuseum Dresden is a Dresden museum dedicated to applied arts. It is located inside the Pillnitz Castle, a castle located by the Elbe River and the summer residence of many kings of Saxony. The museum is part of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, the state collection of the Land of Saxony.
The collection of the Kunstgewerbemuseum consists of about 60,000 objects of applied art, ranging from late antiquity to contemporary design. The objects in the collection come not only from Germany, but also from Poland, Asia, South America. These are objects of different types: works of craftsmanship, furniture, fabrics, musical instruments, watches, dials, all of different materials, such as glass, ceramics, fabrics, metal and wood, up to modern plastic. The collection places a particular emphasis on Saxon craftsmanship (especially glassware, furniture and pewter).
