The Münzkabinett Dresden is the numismatic museum of Dresden. It is located in the Dresden Castle, or Royal Palace (Residenzschloss), a 16th century palace that houses other museums (the Grünes Gewölbe, the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints and the Dresden Arms Museum). The museum is part of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, the state collection of the Land of Saxony. Founded around 1530, it is one of the oldest museums in the city, as well as one of the most important numismatic collections in Germany. Its collection contains about 300,000 specimens from all over the world, from antiquity to the present day, including historical and modern medallions, medals and distinguished honors, historical banknotes and titles, minting for the production of coins and medals, seals, models, first form of coins, as well as minting machines and other equipment. In addition, the Münzkabinett has a study room and a large library of around 30,000 volumes open to the public.
