Burri Foundation

The Burri Foundation is located in the historic center of Città di Castello, the birthplace of Alberto Burri. Burri was one of the most important exponents of poor art in Italy and the Foundation's goal is to pay him homage. The Foundation was founded in 1978 by the will of Maestro Alberto Burri himself. Currently it is developed in two exhibition sites: Palazzo Albizzini and the Ex Seccatosi Tabacco. Palazzo Albizzini is a historic building from the mid-fifteenth century that was completely restored by the Municipality of Città di Castello between 1979 and 1981. Originally Burri decided to make a first donation of thirty-two works. Today the Palace houses a rich collection of the artist's works between 1948 and 1989. The collection comprises about 130 works by the artist in chronological order, including: Muffe, Sacchi, Legni, Ferri, Combustioni, Cretti, Catrami and Cellotex, as well as many sketches and graphic productions. The Foundation periodically organizes temporary exhibitions, conferences and cultural events in collaboration with national and international institutions.
