The MARCA - Museum of Arts Catanzaro is located in the historic center of the city. The museum was founded in 2008 and houses a collection of artists mainly from Southern Italy from the sixteenth to the twentieth century. The Museum is home to a picture gallery and a plaster cast gallery with Baroque, verist, neo-Gothic, naturalist and symbolist works. The collection consists of paintings and sculptures by famous artists, such as: Battistello Caracciolo, Salvator Rosa, Mattia Preti, Enzo Cucchi, Alessandro Mendini, Andrea Cefaly, Francesco Jerace and Antonio di Saliba. One of the flagship projects of the MARCA is the “contemporary sculpture project” which annually hosts internationally renowned artists. Up to now the following have been involved: Jan Fabre, Mimmo Paladino, Antony Gormely, Wim Delvoye, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Daniel Buren and Mauro Staccioli. Next to the exhibition spaces, the International Sculpture Park is born, the first in the whole of Southern Italy. Inside were placed 23 works, among the most important: "The man who measures the clouds" by Jan Fabre, the "Third Paradise" by Michelangelo Pistoletto and "the installation of four works" by Mimmo Paladino. Today the Museum hosts temporary exhibitions and cultural events in connection with the citizens.
