From 7 October to 7 April 2024
Saturday 7 October at 12.00 on the occasion of the Contemporary Day organized by AMACI, the Civic Museum of Castelbuono presents to the public the acquisition of thirty black and white photographs which pay homage to one of the photographers considered by critics among the most important of his generation.
Melo Minnella (Mussomeli, 1937) is today the doyen of Sicilian photographers who crossed the twentieth century with his gaze into the human and cultural world of Sicily, but who also traveled the length and breadth of continents and civilisations.
«Consistent with the cultural intentions that have characterized the implementation of the permanent collection in recent years, the presence of Melo Minnella's works represents a further step in the construction of a Mediterranean identity through contemporary arts», comments Laura Barreca , director of the Museum Civic of Castelbuono.
The exhibition project is completed with a public program which includes educational workshops conducted by Stefania Cordone, head of the Education Department of the Civic Museum (on the dates of 26 and 28 September, 4 and 6 October) and a series of meetings curated by Maria Rosa Sossai, head of the Participatory Projects Department, which will close on Saturday 28 October at 5pm with a conference by photographer Gianni Cusumano, entitled, The charm of collodion: a testimony of craftsmanship in photography .
