The City Museum exhibits, rationalizing it in the chronological thread of the history of Carpi, the artistic and handicraft heritage of the old Civic Museum founded in 1898 and inaugurated in 1914. That institute, in full positivist climate, had collected in its collections, as well as works of art, everything that expressed the activity and ingenuity of man in the centuries of the life of Carpi. From ceramic productions to terracottas, from scagliole to Risorgimento relics, passing through printed volumes and documents, but also architectural and decorative fragments of the city, we get to machinery, tools of agricultural activity, then of the production of shavings up to the most recent entrepreneurial activity of clothing textile. A significant part of the nearly twenty thousand pieces present is made up of donations from private collections, among which those of Pietro Foresti, Lando Degoli and Carlo Contini deserve to be mentioned for their importance and specificity.
