The Musée de Normandie is a Caen museum dedicated to the historical, cultural and social development of the Normandy territory. Inaugurated in 1946, it is located in the Castle of Caen, where the Museum of Fine Arts is also located. The museum's collection is full of more than 80,000 objects that illustrate the evolution of the peoples of Normandy from prehistoric times to the twentieth century. The museum's collections trace the history of Normandy through archeology and ethnography. The archaeological rooms on the ground floor exhibit weapons, jewels and objects of everyday life relocated in their context, from prehistoric times to the foundation of the Duchy of Normandy in 911. The first floor houses the ethnological collections that evoke the life of the inhabitants of the region from the eighteenth century to the ours, with objects of common use, but also with masterpieces of local craftsmanship, collected throughout the region.
