The Memorial is a museum in Caen dedicated to the history of the twentieth century, in particular the Second World War, the D-Day landings and the fragility of peace during the century. Officially inaugurated in 1988 by the then French President François Mitterand, the museum itinerary is different in two major sections: the pre and post 1945 world situation. The great events of this century are analyzed through documents, photos and archival films, together with period objects that belonged to civilians or soldiers.
