The Ethnographic Museum of Budapest (Néprajzi Múzeum) is one of the most important ethnographic museums in Europe, showcasing the life, traditions, and culture of the Hungarian people and other communities around the world. Since 2022, the museum is located in the new and futuristic building designed by the NAPUR Architect studio, situated near Heroes' Square and Városliget Park, featuring a modern and dramatic architectural structure that has become a contemporary icon of Budapest.
Its collections include over 200,000 objects such as costumes, textiles, tools, jewelry, furniture, and instruments related to daily life and folk traditions. The museum also displays artifacts from Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, providing a comprehensive view of popular cultures.
The museum offers permanent and temporary exhibitions, multimedia installations, and interactive paths that make the visit engaging for adults and children. The collection dedicated to Hungarian culture is particularly fascinating, featuring reconstructions of rural environments and traditional craft objects.
In addition to the exhibition spaces, the new building of the Ethnographic Museum houses green areas on the roof, spaces for cultural events, and an educational area dedicated to schools.
