From 24 April to 8 June 2025
On the eightieth anniversary of the Liberation from Nazi-Fascism (1945-2025), Fondazione Brescia Musei presents, within the final section of the visit path of the Museum of the Risorgimento entitled "Heritage," a selection of objects from the civic collections related to the events that constitute the foundation of our democracy.
The flag of the 122nd Garibaldi Brigade, loaned by the Micheletti Foundation and already part of the permanent exhibition, will be placed in dialogue with some weapons used by the partisans during the Resistance: a Variara submachine gun, produced clandestinely mainly in the area of Val D'Ossola, and a Liberty pistol, produced in the United States with stamped sheet metal to speed up manufacturing and designed to be distributed to both European and Asian partisans - which is why, to facilitate the understanding of the weapon's use, the instructions were drawn by the famous cartoonist Walt Disney.
Also on display will be an M38 helmet used by the Partisan Police battalion, which in 1945, following the Liberation, settled in the Grande Miglio. Finally, the sketch of the monument "The Wing of Freedom" by Quinto Ghermandi, winner of the competition announced by the Municipality to commemorate the Resistance in public space and placed in the gardens of Corso Magenta, will allow documenting the policies implemented for the construction of the resistance memory in the post-war period through monumentalism.
