The Musée mer marine is a Bordeaux museum. Opened in 2019, it presents a permanent collection dedicated to the theme of the maritime world, as well as several temporary exhibitions. The museum itinerary develops on three levels, with a collection that covers several millennia of the history of navigation in the world, evoking the immense epic of the oceans, from ancient times to the present day. The history of navigation, the great geographical discoveries, scientific expeditions, naval battles are evoked, all through a collection consisting of more than 1000 objects of the navy (models of boats, navigation instruments, maps, atlases), additional rare objects and sometimes monumental. The art of each era is also associated with this narration: from sculpture to painting, from photography to scale models, sea travel has always been a fundamental factor in human life, therefore also reflected in the arts of one's time. , as a visual and aesthetic witness of the imaginary of a civilization. Not only that: through travels and objects brought back from travels, artists have created imitations and enthusiasts have collected exotic objects, shaping and creating the history of art of our day. The museum itinerary was created with the collaboration of historians, oceanographers and contemporary artists, creating an unprecedented multidisciplinary path, which links the military, scientific, religious, artistic and sporting dynamics that characterize the maritime universe.
