The Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design is a museum in Bordeaux. It is located inside the hotel de Lalande, a building built in 1778, and houses a collection of art and design objects from the 17th to the 19th century. The collection mainly concerns objects produced in Bordeaux, and therefore constitutes an important testimony of the city, "ville des Lumières" and a fundamental port and commercial hub in the 18th century. The collection of the Musée des arts décoratifs et du Design consists of about 35,000 works, including mainly furniture, ceramics, glassware, goldsmiths, musical instruments, miniatures, enamels, weapons, graphic arts, paintings and sculptures. Since 2013, the museum has also developed a program to make decorative arts and design interact and to increase the cultural diffusion and knowledge of the art of design, linking economy and culture. Parallel to the temporary collection, MADD also organizes temporary exhibitions related to applied arts and design.
