From 13 November to 29 March 2026
Museion presents What We Carry, an exhibition that intertwines contemporary art with the fundamental values of the Cultural Olympics of Milan Cortina 2026: inclusion, sustainability, and heritage. Featuring original works and research by Sonia Leimer and Christian Kosmas Mayer, and an extraordinary collection of 43 Olympic torches (1936–2024), the project explores how the design and symbolism of these objects intersect with themes of power, visibility, and cultural heritage. What We Carry evokes how these values are passed on from hand to hand – just like the torches themselves – creating a living legacy where art and sport meet.
With this exhibition, Museion supports the Autonomous Province of Bolzano in strengthening the cultural identity of the territory and consolidating its role as an international exchange center. At the heart of the installation, the extensive setup designed by Sonia Leimer features a fifty-meter-long sculpture in the shape of the infinity symbol, resembling an athletics track and serving as a pedestal for 42 Olympic torches on loan from Olympic Aid and Sport Promotion Project.
This dynamic and evocative sculptural display transforms the torches into a reflection on continuity and change, and on the evolving values of the Olympic Games.
