ARCOS - Museo di Arte Contemporanea del Sannio was inaugurated in 2005 in the basement of the nineteenth-century Government Palace, already used as an air-raid shelter during the Second World War and then as a deposit. ARCOS, through a rich program of thematic exhibitions, allows an overview both on contemporary art of the last forty years and on the most current production, thanks to the involvement of internationally renowned artists and emerging young people, stimulated to interact with history and culture of the city and the Province of Benevento. The ARCOS museum houses both the Egyptian Section of the Sannio Museum with finds from the Benevento Temple dedicated to the goddess Isis, "Lady of Benevento" and the Contemporary Art Section. The Egyptian route reconstructs an ideal journey into the temple, set up in succession between the rooms, starting from an "initiation" into the cult of the goddess, continuing in the area in front of the temple and finally reaching the sacred area itself with the cell of the goddess . The quantity and quality of the Nilotic finds made especially in 1903 testify to the presence of a sanctuary outside the norm and which, unlike the other isei present in Italy, is the only one in Pharaonic style and is also the only Pharaonic temple in Europe. The contemporary section of the museum does not have its own collection but exhibits temporary exhibitions with works by Italian and international artists.
