Joan Miró Barcelona Foundation

The Fundació Joan Miró was created by Miró himself and was initially composed of works from his private collection. The Fundació then opened to the public on 10 June 1975 and has since become a dynamic art center where Joan Miró's artistic pursuit coexists with cutting-edge contemporary art. The building where the Fundació is based was designed by Josep Lluís Sert in agreement with the same artist. Inside, the Fundació offers an overview of the landscapes of Joan Miró's art and life, creating a dialogue with other artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The collection housed here is the most complete on the artist and includes paintings, drawings, sculptures and works on paper, most of which are donations of the artist and his family or come from private collections. The works deepen and illustrate key concepts in the work and thought of Miró, an artist who certainly had the desire to transcend conventional painting.

Particularly significant are the paintings relating to Surrealism and works based on the Spanish Civil War as well as the large canvases produced by Miró from the late 1970s onwards.
