Its protagonist subject: the Archangel Michael. The Hebrew meaning of our patron's name inspired the title of this exhibition. Mikha'el , in fact, means who is like God? In Latin it becomes quis ut Deus? , phrase reported right on the shield that the archangel unsheaths in his iconography. In the publication Marco Pino da Siena. San Michele Arcangelo, published in 2017 by the Filangieri Museum in Naples, our art historian Vincenzo De Luca carries out an accurate examination of the perspective and subject similarities between the work of Marco Pino and that of Michelangelo. The many figures waving at the feet of the San Michele by the Sienese artist refer to the nudes of the frescoed vault of the Sistine Chapel , in an atmosphere of Dante's Inferno analyzed in depth in the monograph, available for consultation in our library or on our website.
