The Museo do Mar de Galicia (Galician Sea Museum) is a museum in the Spanish city of Vigo. Located in the old Alcabre-Molino de Viento canning factory, the building was formerly the old municipal slaughterhouse, later converted into a museum in the 1992 thanks to the project of the Italian architect Aldo Rossi and the Galician César Portela. The museum covers an area of 14,000 m 2 ”. The permanent exhibition of the museum is located on the second floor: the exhibition displays large illuminated cubes that contain containers of port goods, the exhibition is still supported by video and audio documents, interactive screens and original objects related to the history of fishing.

Here the essence of the relationship between Galicia and the sea is told through themes such as the exploitation, conservation and commercialization of natural resources. The exhibition is also divided into large thematic blocks, also linked to the fishing industry. The Museo do Mar also hosts temporary exhibitions.

Paneis with explanations, video and audio documentaries, interactive screens, archival documents and a multitude of exhibits will be your visiting companions during the whole or the entire tour. In addition, chicken and seafood will help to understand the extraction processes, sardines, salting techniques and fish, sales processes, lonxas, routes and markets.
