Civic Art Gallery "C. Ottone"

Since 2003, the Civic Art Gallery "C. Ottone" has been housed in the Sforzesco Castle of Vigevano on the 1st floor. It takes its name from Casimiro Ottone, a Vigevano painter of the early 1900s, also famous for having carried out the restoration of the frescoes in Vigevano's Piazza Ducale; an entire room of the Pinacoteca is dedicated to Ottone. The works exhibited in the Pinacoteca cover a chronological span that goes from the 15th to the 20th century, but undoubtedly the most represented periods are the '800 and' 900. The period of the great Italian and European painting of the nineteenth century constitutes the heart of the Civic Art Gallery. A season that opens in Vigevano with the figure of Giovanni Battista Garberini (1819-1896), recognized master of modern Vigevano painting and author of an impressive gallery of portraits of exponents of the city bourgeoisie. The only important representative of twentieth century sculpture in Vigevano is Giovan Battista Ricci (1891-1955) whose preparatory sketches for the “Monument to the Italian Shoemaker” and other works dedicated to the footwear industry are exhibited.
