The Prunksaal, part of the former Hofbibliothek built in the 18th century, surprises with its nearly 80 meters in length and 20 meters in height. An elaborately decorated dome and numerous frescoes create an imperial flair. Four Venetian magnificent globes with a diameter of over one meter complete the heart of the Austrian National Library.
The unique Library Hall, housing over 200,000 historical books, is considered one of the most beautiful in the world and underwent comprehensive conservation measures for the last time in 1955. From July to December 2022, the 300-year-old baroque splendor received a new shine and has been accessible to all visitors again since January 1, 2023.
