From 14 May to 30 September 2024
On the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the death of Marco Polo, 8 January 1324, we intend to enhance and revive his extraordinary adventure on the "Silk Road" through a selection of costumes that represent the path of the great Venetian merchant and traveler who already at seventeen he found himself with his father and uncle sailing the seas, crossing boundless deserts and visiting legendary cities, meeting powerful characters but also dangerous warriors from very different countries and cultures, as we were able to learn about through the great RAI production which saw international participation including China itself.
The exhibition will therefore be a tribute to the director Giuliano Montaldo, the costume designer Enrico Sabbatini and the composer Ennio Morricone to also enhance these extraordinary missing Italian geniuses. Specifically, the exhibition is testimony to the ability of Stefano Nicolao, involved in the production directly by the great costume designer Sabbatini, to operate on the Himalayan chain to create scenes and costumes of the passage from Persia to China. This initiative, therefore, offers around thirty costumes that document the journey of Marco Polo from Venice to China, accompanied by original sketches, the result of four years of study and preparation of the film and still photos.
