From 11 February to 10 April 2023
Ca' Pesaro pays homage to the great exhibition on Vittore Carpaccio set up in Palazzo Ducale by presenting the latest cycle of works by the painter Marco Petrus, collected under the title of Capricci. The series takes its cue from the very rigorous and measured lines of the typical Venetian breeches worn by certain figures that animate the scenes of some canvases by Vittore Carpaccio and Giovanni Mansueti, exhibited in the rooms of the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice. The exhibition will be at Cà Pesaro from 11 February to 10 April, promoted by the MuVe Foundation in collaboration with M77 Gallery, curated by Michele Bonuomo.
“With this exhibition, the International Gallery of Modern Art renews its vocation to always suggest new readings of the past with the lens of the present time. We can really speak of a lens in the case of the new cycle of paintings by Marco Petrus, which the Milanese painter derives, more or less directly, from the vision and careful study of the works of Carpaccio and Giovanni Mansueti. In particular, the series draws inspiration from the lines and patterns of the traditional Venetian breeches that dress the figures in the large canvases exhibited at the Gallerie dell'Accademia. The primitivism of the Old Masters becomes, in the Capricci series, a mental translation that abstracts a detail of the painting or pictorial cycle and explodes it on the canvas. The process starts from a meticulous analysis of the decorative details and develops in the repetition and reproduction of the chromatic textures, finally making itself explicit in the reflection and inflection of the rhythms that emerge from it. Thus a large installation is created that takes on the dimensions and meaning of a new pictorial cycle”, says the Manager of Cà Pesaro, Elisabetta Barisoni .
