Since his questioning, in the 1920s, about modern masters up to his last paintings of the 1940s, in Gorky's work there is always a particular vision that distinguishes him as one of the key figures of 20th century American art. alongside Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko.

The Venetian retrospective is carried out in close collaboration with The Arshile Gorky Foundation and with family members, therefore it also allows you to admire works that have rarely been exhibited in public. The exhibition itinerary also counts on prestigious museum loans: National Gallery of Art in Washington ; Tate Modern in London ; Center Pompidou in Paris; Whitney Museum of American Art , New York; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo; Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, of Lisbon; Diocese of the Armenian American Church in New York.
Gabriella Belli states: "Gorky's extraordinary personality, for the first time in Italy with a monographic exhibition, will illuminate areas still in the shadow of our country's art history, making us explore in depth the osmosis of European and American painting, of which Gorky was undoubtedly one of the most important innovators ”.
"The most important works of Gorky's career - continues Edith Devaney - will be brought together in an exhibition that will allow us to reaffirm the value of his experience in the development and definition of 20th century American art, highlighting how his influence continues today. ".
