The International Gallery of Modern Art Ca' Pesaro presents, from June 20 to September 28, 2025, the solo exhibition of Antonello Viola (Rome, 1966), curated by Elisabetta Barisoni. The project, specially designed for the rooms on the second floor of the museum, features a special selection of oil paintings on glass and Japanese paper created by the artist in the last four years, many of which are being exhibited to the public for the first time. In Antonello Viola's pictorial universe, color is matter and energy, vibrating in another space-time, inviting silence and contemplation. His works possess the gift of iridescence, constantly changing according to light and resonating with memory. Like a liquid epidermis, Viola's painting is made of transparencies and layering, reflections and dissolutions. The multiple details on the surface of the work are traces of events over time, signs of the artist's intimate relationship with the fluid material of painting and the intangible one of gold leaf. In comparison with the city of Venice, Viola welcomes and continues the vibrant relationship between light, sky, and water that characterizes this city. The ebb and flow of fluids inevitably mark time and life. It is precisely this flow that the artist has sought in his works for Ca' Pesaro. Antonello Viola maintains the ability to not perceive the object in the painting, to pulverize it and let it escape, creating abstract atmospheres that address the pure spiritual essence transfigured in pictorial material. More than abstraction, one should speak of non-objectivity, invoking Malevich and his "transfiguration into the zero of form." Utopian islands emerge from the water and become the titles of the works: "Isola d'Elba," "Poveglia," "Le Camere," "Murano," "Giudecca," "Santo Spirito"...
