From 12 March to 16 April 2023
After the installation created for the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics, Tony Cragg returns to Italy to create an exhibition at the Reggia di Venaria presenting a selection of ten sculptures created between 1997 and 2021. The sculptures of Cragg, one of the contemporary artists most successful Englishmen in the world, are set within the permanent exhibition itinerary of the Reggia, starting with the Court of Honour, continuing in the Parco Alto dei Giardini, to arrive at the internal hall at the end of the Scuderie Juvarriane.
Large-scale works, shaped using various materials - from bronze to wood, from fiberglass to steel - all characterized by the typical wavy and sinuous lines, which seem to be modeled on a gigantic potter's wheel.
Tony Cragg's work analyzes the multiple relationships existing between human beings and the environment. Using a wide selection of materials and sculptural techniques, the artist thematises the complex connection between the figure, the object and the landscape, which for Cragg includes both geological and microbiological systems and urban and industrial contexts.
