From 11 October to 12 December 2026
An exhibition like never seen before, in an open treasure chest, actually created for the occasion. "Borders. From Turner to Monet to Hopper. A Song with Variations", curated by Marco Goldin, aims to be the flagship event of "GO! 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia, European Capital of Culture", of which it interprets the theme. It is welcomed by the completely renovated spaces, suitable for international exhibitions, of the Esedra di Levante at Villa Manin, in Passariano di Codroipo (Udine).
It must be acknowledged that, while the curatorial signature and the idea belong to Marco Goldin, it is equally true that "Borders" has a second "father": Massimiliano Fedriga, Governor of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, who fully embraced the scientific project and worked to create the conditions to establish safe and suitable spaces within the monumental complex of Villa Manin to host the international loans that make this grand exhibition absolutely unique and hardly replicable.
It must also be acknowledged that few curators in the world could bring together masterpieces of the level that the public will admire at Villa Manin, each chosen by Goldin based on a scientific project in which, as is his style, art becomes poetry, literature, profound, in a journey that is sometimes immediate and at other times karstic, uniting in a precise and fascinating narrative seemingly different facets of reality.
Here, borders are not barriers but opportunities, areas of creative contamination, exchange, openings to new horizons, stimuli. Whether they are geographical, historical, orographic, psychological, or cultural borders, on paths ranging from the infinitely large of the universe to the secret of one's soul.
Over a hundred works to tell those borders. Works lent by around forty museums both European and American and by jealous private collections. Goldin's expertise and relationships, proven by dozens of successful exhibitions, have opened "impossible" doors.
