The show

The National Cinema Museum proposes STEFANO BESSONI. LA MOLE DELLE MERAVIGLIE, curated by Stefano Bessoni and Domenico De Gaetano, the first major exhibition dedicated to the creative genius of the director, illustrator and animator, hosted from 10 May to 11 September 2023 on the reception floor of the Mole Antonelliana, with free admission during museum opening hours.

The over 150 works on display - mostly from Bessoni's private archive and from the collections of the National Cinema Museum - tell the spheres in which his expressive research moves: from fairy tales to the world of science, from illustrations to stop animation -motion and the manufacture of puppets, up to the great love for cinema.

Between the fantastic and the fairytale, in a journey populated by puppets, illustrations, films, exhibits and scientific preparations, we find ourselves immersed in the world of Stefano Bessoni, a fascinating Wunderkammer inside the most majestic and imposing of the "chambers of wonders" in Turin, the Mole Antonelliana.

The exhibition itinerary takes shape around five illustrious figures, Antonelli, Prolo, Darwin, Lombroso and Greenaway, who, albeit in different eras and fields, are united by the same vocation: to collect and catalog objects and ideas. Bessoni interprets them, translates them into graphics and objects, in an alternation of colors and black and white between real and imaginary. Stefano Bessoni's art and work narrate this fil rouge.
