Sudden apparitions and unexpected encounters with time keepers, animated works, portraits in flesh and blood, condemned to death, lost souls, mythological spirits, secular inhabitants, historical colonels. The characters and stories of "Ghosts and other mysteries ”, the new thematic exhibition of “ Comics in the Museums ”open to the public in the Galleria Sabauda of the Royal Museums of Turin , from 17 May to 11 September.
They jump out of canvases or sculptures, wander undisturbed through the corridors of castles and museums, accompanying the paths of the bravest visitors: "Ghosts and other mysteries" is in fact the title of the new exhibition chapter of the Ministry of Culture project, led by Minister Dario Franceschini, born to bring young people (but not only) closer to the places of Italian culture through the pencil and the stories of some of the most famous and promising national cartoonists.
The Director of the Royal Museums Enrica Pagella comments on the meeting between comics and museum: “The Royal Museums enthusiastically welcome this new exhibition, a bridge between past and present to investigate the collections of cultural heritage. Expression of the contemporary world, comics are a narrative form that is linked to other artistic languages present in the centuries-old collections. In addition to drawing as a means of expression, storytelling through images brings together the figurative art of all times ”.
After the first exhibitions at the Central Institute for Graphics, at the Santuario di Ercole Vincitore in Tivoli, at the Lucca Comic & Games 2021, and after the arrival of the 52 self-portraits of the authors of comics at the Uffizi, the story of the contemporary heritage continues. Italian through the Ninth art.
Curated by Mattia Morandi, Chiara Palmieri and Simona Cardinali , the exhibition is inspired by the cartoon by Lorena Canottiere "I am not a child anymore", set in the Royal Museums, and starring Prince Eugene of Savoy-Soissons. The "warrior philosopher", as Rousseau called him, and cultured art collector, who contributed to enrich the rooms of the Royal Museums.
