The GAM of Turin presents in the spaces of Sala 1 Sinfonia, an immersive and participatory installation by Alessandro Sciaraffa (Turin, 1976), curated by Sara d'Alessandro Manozzo. The project, chosen by Fondazione Torino Musei - GAM, won the Italian Council call (IX edition, 2020), the international promotion program of Italian art of the General Direction for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture, which provides for the financing of cultural projects aimed at to the promotion, production, knowledge, dissemination of contemporary Italian creation in Italy and abroad in the field of visual arts. Intended for the permanent collection of the GAM, Sinfonia is exhibited for the first time in the spaces of the museum and will move in the spring to the halls of the TSE Art Destination Foundation and Gallery, in Nur-Sultan, one of the most dynamic realities in the contemporary artistic panorama of Kazakhstan: it will thus strengthen the relationship between the city of Turin and the Kazakh capital, on the occasion of the celebrations of thirty years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Sinfonia is composed of a gong, a sound system and a video projection on a mirror screen inserted in a dark space to combine two of the fundamental themes in Sciaraffa's work: the primitive sound of the gong and the observation of the Northern Lights.

Sciaraffa's artistic career focuses on the invisible phenomena of nature, which he dissects through the use of experimental technologies that often involve the public. The result of his work is characterized by the symbiotic presence of sound, technology and nature and, as already in the work Aurora - presented by GAM in 2019 on the occasion of Luci d'Artista - Sinfonia also explores and makes sparkling light tangible, with infinite shades of colors and shapes, and the inaudible sound generated by the Northern Lights, captured through equipment capable of picking up low frequencies. In this case, sound and light are activated by the visitor interacting with the gong. Alessandro Sciaraffa, in the design phase of the work, said: There will be the sound of the northern lights, which will begin to crackle, to sparkle. You will be able to watch these flashes of light, like large paintings that flow in a space-time, and then make them explode with the gong.

The work is therefore dedicated to the sounds of natural depths, from aural chorus to the physical and archetypal vibrations of the gong, intertwining culture, natural events, sound waves and technology to offer an experience that leads the visitor on an imaginative journey through unknown physical realities.
