From 15 to 25 April 2022 the Royal Museums of Turin open the doors of the Royal Library to admire an extraordinary exhibition of the Code on the flight of birds and 13 drawings, including the famous Self-portrait.

Architect, anatomist, painter, visionary: the incredible and multifaceted genius of Leonardo da Vinci returns as a protagonist at the Royal Museums which from 15 to 25 April 2022 propose an extraordinary exhibition of the Code on the flight of birds and 13 drawings, including the famous Self-portrait.

The exhibition Face to face with Leonardo tells a set of works of exceptional value, which documents the activity of the great master of the Italian Renaissance from the beginning of his career in Florence to the Milanese studies dedicated to machines, anatomy, proportions and to the expressions of the human face, to arrive at the dream of flight.

From Monday to Friday from 9 to 19 and Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 19, visitors will be led by expert guides to discover Leonardo's corpus up close: the artist's work and his tireless pursuit of perfection emerge from the laid out features with red or black stone, in pen or ink, shaded with quick strokes of the brush or made voluminous by touches of white lead. Drawing, thanks to its intrinsic versatility, which makes it adaptable to both an in-depth analysis of details and a rapid formal synthesis, is one of Leonardo da Vinci's favorite means of expression, who uses it throughout his life. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to observe, after centuries, the traces of the creative process which, from a fleeting flash, concretizes and fixes the idea on paper.

The experience will be preceded by a visit to the courtly hall of the Library , designed by the royal architect Pelagio Palagi, with the splendid vault frescoed by the painters Angelo Moia and Antonio Trefogli, and by an introduction to the history of Leonardo's collection and its arrival in Turin.
