From 16 September to 15 January 2023
The City of Treviso dedicates to its greatest painter, Paris Bordon (Treviso 1500 - Venice 1571), defined by the Venetian historian Marco Boschini, the "Divin Pitor" - a term he used only for Raphael and Titian - the largest monographic ever made so far with exceptional works, many of which exhibited in Italy for the first time.
Set up at the Santa Caterina Museum from 16 September 2022 to 15 January 2023 , the exhibition is curated by Simone Facchinetti, Associate Professor at the University of Salento, and Arturo Galansino, director of the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation in Florence, promoted by the City of Treviso, by the Museums Civici Treviso and the Veneto Region. The production and organization are entrusted to Marsilio Arte, who publishes the catalog. Intesa Sanpaolo is the Main Partner of the initiative, created with the contribution of the Treviso-Belluno-Dolomiti Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the SAVE - AER TRE Group and with the Prosecco DOC Protection Consortium. Radio Monte Carlo is the official radio of the show.
The exhibition tells the creativity and extraordinary quality of the production of Titian's pupil by bringing together 41 works , including 34 masterpieces including paintings and some drawings by Paris Bordon, presented alongside testimonies by Pietro Aretino, Giovanni Battista Cavalcaselle, Luigi Lanzi, Carlo Ridolfi, Giorgio Vasari, who attest to the painter's critical fortune.
The loans come from the most prestigious museums in the world, including the National Gallery in London, the Louvre in Paris, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, the Uffizi Galleries in Florence and the Vatican Museums. is divided into eight thematic sections (Legacy of Titian; Historical Fortune; Portraits; Mythologies; Eros; Inventions of Paris; Pictures of private devotion; Devotional works and altarpieces) which retrace the variety and originality of the themes of the Treviso genius, from Sacred Conversations to drawings, from sensual female and male portraits to mythological representations, from sacred scenes of large altarpieces to small works for private devotion. All the seasons of the painter are documented, starting from the early testimonies marked by the influence of Titian, to those, very personal, of maturity.
