From 6 June to 5 November 2023
Opening 2 June 2023, 6pm
Àitason by Paolo William Tamburella inaugurates the second edition of Cortemporanea, the project that transforms the courtyard and halls of Palazzo Chigi Zondadari, in Piazza del Campo in Siena, into an exhibition space dedicated to site-specific works by Italian and international artists called by Flavio Misciattelli, president of the Palazzo Chigi Zondadari Foundation, to freely interpret the space. Àitason is an Etruscan word that describes the cultivation of vines on trees, a technique also known as "marita vine".
Paolo William Tamburella has conceived a site-specific work that envelops and passes through the eighteenth-century interiors of Palazzo Chigi Zondadari until it projects out of the windows. A vine plant, which seems to have grown over the centuries, dialogues with the collection and the interiors of the building, in an extraordinary combination of architecture, art and nature. In the large ballroom, some vine shoots collected by the artist in France on the slopes of the Sainte Victoire mountain are dressed in precious golden armor, a second skin, an act of protection but even more of rebirth.
