The Museum of Recovered Art (MARec) is born in San Severino Marche, the new diocesan museum of the Archdiocese of Camerino and San Severino Marche that collects in a single exhibition the works saved from the churches after the earthquake of 2016. The MARec, located inside the episcopal palace of San Severino Marche, is a new museum center where the works of art, recovered from the unusable churches of the Archdiocese, will meet the public in a new setting, waiting to be returned to their original churches. A temporary, but necessary, custody to return to the local population, and not only, part of that wonderful heritage of which the churches of the archdiocese are proud and which one day will have to be welcomed back.

The enormous artistic heritage of an area so severely affected by the earthquake will therefore return to be enjoyed and to constitute a further reason for attraction for a beautiful territory that deserves the utmost cultural and touristic enhancement. The rich exhibited heritage includes authentic jewels, such as the Madonna del Monte by Lorenzo d'Alessandro or the wooden statue of the Madonna di Macereto. The 70 works are displayed on one floor divided into 13 rooms. The second floor houses the equipped storage of the remaining 2500 works with an attached restoration laboratory. The third floor features classrooms and spaces for conferences or temporary exhibitions. The Multimedia Room located in the first part of the museum path represents the point of deepening and reflection on the meaning of the places in this territory so strongly affected by the earthquake. Through a documentary with evocative narration produced by Cesura, a photographic collective that creates projects in the field of documentary photography and visual research in the artistic field, it will be possible to retrace with suggestive shots the original places for which these works were created.
