The Jubilee represents for the Church a time of grace, forgiveness, and spiritual renewal. On the occasion of this extraordinary event, the MARec Museum hosts an exhibition dedicated to the theme of motherhood and the beauty of life that is born, in harmony with the journey of the dioceses of the Marche region. Through some works of great historical and artistic value, the exhibition path invites visitors to reflect on the mystery of the Incarnation, on divine mercy, and on the role of the Virgin Mary in the history of salvation. The works selected for this temporary exhibition offer a visual narrative of the Christian faith, emphasizing the importance of the maternal figure of Mary and her connection with the theme of the Eucharist. Among the masterpieces present are the Madonna del Latte by Girolamo di Giovanni, the Madonna della Misericordia by Pietro Alamanno, and two publications: a Bible containing on the first page the ceramic image of the Nativity and a missal with the representation of the Madonna with the Child.
The Madonna del Latte: the Incarnation of the Word
The fresco, attributed to the Camerino painter Girolamo di Giovanni, originally from the Church of Macchie in Gagliole (MC) and later exhibited, until the earthquake of 2016, in the Archdiocesan Museum of Camerino, represents one of the excellences of our artistic heritage. The Virgin is depicted breastfeeding the Child, a gesture that not only expresses the intimacy of the mother-child relationship but also becomes a metaphor for the spiritual nourishment offered by the Word of God. "Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you!" (Lk 11:27) is the expression of praise addressed to Mary and that refers to the mystery of the Incarnation of Jesus, the first and only model to follow to be reborn and grow in faith: "Learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Mt 11:28-29).
