On the occasion of the forty years since the birth of the Civic Collection of Drawings of Salò, MuSa offers a large exhibition dedicated to the Collection which boasts a precious collection of drawings. The Collection, founded in 1983, currently consists of more than 800 works on paper by contemporary artists, with particular interest in Italian art from the Second World War to the present day.

In this exhibition a selection of more than 100 works is presented, including important contemporary artists, so that the public can appreciate their technical and stylistic qualities.

The Brescian sculptor Roberto Ciroli will create site-specific installations in each room, creating an evocative itinerary in dialogue with the papers of the Collection. Its curious characters will walk suspended on wires as if in a dance between works, stimulating the visitor to follow this common thread.

The Civica Raccolta del Disegno was born in 1983 from the idea of Pino Mongiello, then councilor for culture, the artist Attilio Forgioli and the art critic Flaminio Gualdoni, with the initial contribution of some private supporters. The first nucleus of the Collection is in fact made up of the donation of works acquired by supporters, progressively increased by purchases and donations from artists and collectors.

In the 80s and 90s, in addition to periodic exhibitions of acquisitions, personal exhibitions were held and conferences on contemporary Italian art were promoted. In the following years, a significant selection of the works was exhibited at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Gazzoldo degli Ippoliti (Mn), at the Museum of Modern Art Galleria Klatovy (Czech Republic), with which a cultural exchange took place, at Museum of Contemporary Art of Lissone (Mi), at the Permanente Museum of Milan, at the Artists' House of Tenno (Tn), at the Civic Art Gallery of Civitanova Marche (MC) and at Palazzo Martinengo in Brescia. The institution, which has achieved a permanent character, also following the agreement for its management, stipulated with the Province of Brescia in 1989, has a warehouse, an archive and an exhibition section at the MuSa. Its task is to establish a public collection fund of works mainly on paper and promote their study and use.

The Collection today consists of more than 800 works by contemporary artists, with particular interest in Italian art from the post-World War II period to today. The Steering Committee is made up of members appointed by the Municipality and the Province of Brescia, by the Mayor of Salò, who chairs it, and by a conservator-curator.
