Animals and insects, plants and flowers, but also human beings sometimes pretend to be what they are not. The temporary exhibition "Mimetismi" explores the concept of mimicry, a phenomenon present in nature, while also broadening its gaze on man and art, through the fascinating work of the Chinese artist Liu Bolin.

The exhibition, promoted by the Rovereto Civic Museum Foundation in collaboration with the Gaburro Gallery in Milan, and curated by the Museum experts Gionata Stancher, Giulia Tomasi and Tiziano Straffelini, offers visitors a journey through mimicry in nature and art.

Mimicry, a biological phenomenon through which organisms take on shapes and colors similar to those of the surrounding environment or other living beings, is the underlying theme of the exhibition. Animals and plants use this trick to escape predators, hide among the surrounding elements or pass themselves off as something they are not. A biological evolution aimed at survival, which Liu Bolin transforms into a powerful tool of artistic expression also on this occasion: he presents 7 large works from the Gaburro Gallery in Milan, which represents the artist, which are intertwined with the narrative of the rooms of the exhibition, bringing with it a human and social value that only art can restore.

On display you will be able to discover various floristic specimens, as well as a selection of finds from the Museum's entomological and ornithological collections. There will be no shortage of live specimens of plants and animals that implement particularly effective camouflage strategies: in addition to Lithops and false strawberries, visitors will be able to admire live camouflage of chameleons and dry leaf insects.

The stories of natural mimicry are completed with the artistic and human experience of Liu Bolin, known as "the invisible man", who uses mimicry as a form of resistance and reflection, creating works in which he merges with the surrounding environment. Through his art, Bolin questions ideas and attitudes, opening a space for reflection on the social, political and cultural dynamics of our time.
