From 4 March to 11 June 2023
Up until a few centuries ago, the landscape and life in Vallagarina were radically different from those of today. For millennia the Adige has played a leading role and the flow of its waters was in harmony with the existence of the inhabitants of the valley. the river, in addition to characterizing the territory from a geographical point of view, was its commercial hub, which defined trades and professions, which gave identity to all the peoples along its course, which put them in communication or defined their borders .
The history of the "Gente di Fiume" is not only the story of rafters, boatmen, ferrymen and other professions dependent on the river but also that of craftsmen, fishermen, dyers and farmers, an ecosystem and a social environment so different from the current one, such as to be almost alien to our eyes, and whose testimonies risk escaping or being completely forgotten.
The exhibition traces the life of the communities that flourished on the banks of the Adige from prehistory to the mid-nineteenth century, exploring their commercial connections, movements, goods and professions, traces of identity along the more than 400 kilometers of its course. The exhibition contains archaeological finds, ethnographic artifacts, testimonies, works of art, historical maps and ancient texts and is enriched by graphic reconstructions, all of which document historical events, work activities, tasks and gestures carried out with archaic and modern.
Do not miss the immersive experience with the 3D viewers to immerse yourself in first person on the banks of the river almost four thousand years ago.
