The Casa Museo di Goethe is a museum and cultural center located on Via del Corso in Rome. It is dedicated to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and his Italian Journey, undertaken from September 3, 1786, to June 18, 1788, and published as a book in 1813. The Casa Museo di Goethe is situated in the apartment where Goethe stayed during his time in Rome with his friend Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein. The rooms of the permanent exhibition narrate Goethe's Italian journey and his Roman stay with letters, paintings, drawings, books, and historical documents. Among other things, original drawings by Jakob Philipp Hackert, Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein, and Christoph Heinrich Kniep are on display. Also featured are modern works such as Andy Warhol's portrait of Goethe, a piece by Luigi Ontani, or a sculpture by Andreu Alfaro. Four rooms are dedicated to temporary exhibitions, often focusing on Italo-German themes and the tradition of traveling to Italy up to the present day. A museum room houses a library with a collection of books by Richard W. Dorn, first editions of Goethe's works, history of ideas, and cultural relations between Germany and Italy.
