The show

The exhibition deals with the theme of sacredness seen from different angles, unfolding according to different but complementary paths between the exhibition spaces of Palazzo Barberini, MAXXI and Palazzo delle Esposizioni.

2022 is the centenary of the birth of Pier Paolo Pasolini, one of the most complex and relevant intellectuals and creatives of the 20th century. For this occasion, the Barberini Corsini National Galleries, the MAXXI Foundation and the Palaexpo Special Company of Rome have created a coordinated project aimed at celebrating the poet in the three Roman museums.

Everything is holy is the title inspired by the phrase of the same name pronounced by the wise Chiron in the film Medea (1969), and outlines what is considered sacred for the poet: the world of the underclass, archaic, religious who is in sharp conflict with the hero of a rational, secular, bourgeois and neo-capitalist world. At MAXXI, the key to understanding Pasolini's work is given back through the voices of contemporary artists, whose works evoke the author's political commitment and the analysis of the social contents inspired by his works.

The constant dedication to the themes of public life, the acute observation of the dynamics of power, made Pasolini a prophet to whom many generations have looked to trace the guidelines of their research. The genuineness of the vulgar that becomes sacredness, the disappearance of the suburbs, the effects of massive media consumption on the general public, the great powers read as disruptive forces of our present, the artist's voice as an act of protest and prophecy are the themes that articulate the sections designed for the exhibition.
